Utility ScoopThe spring loaded latch pins hold the bucket in the non-dumping position. The balance of the bucket is such that without a load it will fall back to the level position. As it falls back it pushes the latch pins out of the way. Once the bucket is in the level position the pins are able to pop forward again thus locking the bucket.
